Weather and Tide

Most sailors are weather obsessive. We all know that weather can make a huge difference to our racing preparations, and of course, races themselves.

In response to this, we’ve put this guide collection to support you in preparation for future JOG events.

Navigating the Tide

Tide, especially in the Solent can be a tricky beast, particularly to those unfamiliar with double tides and strong tides. Playing the tide tactics right can make a huge difference to your race, so it’s worth planning tidal information into your pre-race thinking.

Tackling the Wind and Weather

Every sailor has their favourite wind/weather information websites, and most of us will be religiously checking an assortment of them for the latest predictions several days before race day comes.

Here are a few suggestions in no particular order, but if you feel we’ve missed any that you particularly rate, please do let us know and we’ll add them.

JOG recommend PredictWind for both weather, tides and routing. JOG member’s are entitled to a subscription discount for this service. Information is available in the member’s benefits section of the site.
